JACKSON DOC INSTITUTE (JDI)

MISSION STATEMENT:

Jackson Doc Institute (JDI) is dedicated to empowering underserved youth and young adults in Jackson, Tennessee, through creative education, mentorship, and professional development. By integrating documentary filmmaking, storytelling, arts, and emerging technologies, JDI fosters creativity, critical thinking, leadership, and lifelong learning while preparing participants for higher education and meaningful career opportunities.

Through partnerships with educational institutions, industry professionals, and community organizations, JDI provides access to workshops, mentorships, professional training, and hands-on learning experiences.

JDI also supports independent documentary filmmakers through the Jackson Doc Film Grants and its annual international film festival, Jackson Doc Fest, promoting powerful stories that address social justice, humanity, equality, cultural awareness, and environmental issues.

GOALS:

JDI aims to establish a sustainable, year-round educational and professional development platform that supports students, faculty, filmmakers, and local communities.

Our key objectives include:

  • Educational Advancement: Expand access to practical learning opportunities that complement traditional academic programs and encourage students to pursue higher education.

  • Career Development: Prepare students for professional careers through hands-on training, industry mentorship, internships, and networking opportunities.

  • Technology and Innovation: Introduce students to artificial intelligence, digital media, filmmaking, and emerging technologies that are transforming today’s workforce.

  • Academic and Industry Partnerships: Build collaborations with universities, businesses, creative professionals, and international institutions to provide broader educational and career opportunities.

  • Community Engagement: Support underserved youth through accessible educational programs, cultural activities, scholarships, and mentorship.

  • Documentary Filmmaking and Cultural Awareness: Promote meaningful storytelling addressing social justice, humanity, equality, history, and environmental awareness through Jackson Doc Fest and the Jackson Doc Film Grants.
